Kelsey Dyer
Segment Producer
As an aspiring journalist, Kelsey first became interested in television in high school. She admits that she saw it as an extension of her theatre hobby, a more responsible way of "performing." But soon after starting as an intern with CareersTV and its sister show HelpTV, she realized that she didn't want to be in the spotlight; instead, she caught the production bug. Planning shoots, doing interviews, scripting, editing...every aspect of telling a great story inspired her! A graduate of Brandon University and the University Of Regina School Of Journalism, Kelsey joined the CareersTV team full time in 2005.
First Job:
My first paid job was selling programs at the hockey games in Brandon, Manitoba, home of the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League. My friend and I would stand at the entrance to the rink in ridiculously oversized hockey jerseys and aprons full of change and try to convince people that they needed a program to fully enjoy the game. But it wasn’t all bad; we made a little bit of money and after the first intermission we got to stay and enjoy the game for free!
Foot in the Door:
My program at the University of Regina’s School of Journalism included a semester on internship, and I was fortunate enough to be chosen to come to Edmonton. In those three months, I met some amazing mentors, learned many valuable skills, and recognized my shared passion for storytelling. My internship got me excited about my future career and it gave me my Foot in the Door into television. I returned to work here a few months after completing my degree.
What I Like About CareersTV:
In my time working on CareersTV, I’ve had the privilege of meeting people who are truly passionate about their work, something I think every Canadian strives for. I’ve learned that your career is more than your job and that your job is more than a place you drive to every day. I consider it a privilege to be able to bring these stories to our viewers each week so that they too can be inspired to pursue their passions!

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
